Fellow Citizens is the conglomeration of nine persons from the Denver/Boulder area. Born from the famed 1010 Lincoln Place, the original four-piece band began playing in February of 2008. The original members included Carson Pelo, Tyler Pelo (The Brothers Pelo), Nathan Wright and Peter Goodwin. After writing a few songs and playing a few shows, they went into the studio with friend and collaborator, Matt Hampar. Hampar recorded, mixed and mastered Fellow Citizen’s first EP, entitled …And Summery Skies

In order to promote the EP, the Citizens began playing shows more frequently. During the summer of 2008, the boys were introduced to local folk-singer, Eliza Boote. Boote had already toured to promote her first record entitled Savannah. After a few rehearsals with the boys, a unanimous decision was made to add Boote as a full time member of the band. She began blessing the Citizen’s performances with her beautiful voice immediately afterwards.

It was shortly thereafter that the five Citizens were beginning to become reacquainted with their old friend and collaborator, Matt Hampar. Hampar attended one of Eliza Boote’s first shows with the Citizens and immediately became interested in starting work with the group again. Following Boote’s lead, Hampar was quickly added as a Citizen. He has since become one of the biggest creative forces of the band.
Soon after the tour, members Will Walden, Matt McGuire (the two of which make up Calabasas/Boulder based band, StaG) and Sarah Micheals were added to the line-up for their musical expertise and up-right citizenry.

The sound generated by these nine goofballs is influenced by a wide variety of artists and musicians. Folk-based at heart and rooted in post-rock, their music has evolved into something much more, making it difficult to classify. The Citizens have cited such brilliant acts as the Beatles, Broken Social Scene, Do Make Say Think, Pavement, Animal Collective and Pink Floyd as having had some of the heaviest impact on their writing and playing styles. However, the Citizens are constantly expanding their sound while maintaining a specific feel.
Fellow Citizens have shared the stage with such acts as Akron/Family, Deer Tick, Margot & the Nuclear So and So's, Woodsman, Dawes, Papermoons and Mount St. Helens Vietnam Band.
Fellow Citizens are currently recording new songs, old songs and more songs. They are expecting to release their first full-length album sometime mid 2010.
